Debt Is Not For Life #WSPD16

This post is part of the World Suicide Prevention Day blog tour. If you or someone you know is feeling suicidal, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or visit

My friend Melanie, who just released her book Dear Debt: A Story About Breaking Up With Debt, has organized a blog tour to help people realize that debt is NOT a death sentence and that hurting yourself over debt and money will not help anyone.

She has two blog posts regarding suicide and debt:

  1. Please Seek Help

  2. Don’t Kill Yourself Over Debt

Because of her posts, she receives a decent amount of search engine traffic from people using these search terms. Here’s what Melanie says about the subject:

It’s heartbreaking and I know we can do a better job of talking about this. I’ve received many emails from people who said my words helped them– others, I don’t know. All I know is that I want to help people as much as I can and spread the word.

Debt is not for life.

Whatever you are currently feeling and/or experiencing, I want you to know that debt is not for life, and it is definitely NOT a death sentence.

Debt can feel overwhelming. It can be tiring, stressful, sad, cause anger, and more.

You may feel stuck, as if you’ll never get out of debt.

However, I want to say that debt is not forever and you are not alone.

You will get out of this, and you will survive.

It won’t always be overwhelming, you won’t always be tired, you won’t always feel stressed about debt, and so on.

You will get through this.

If you are thinking about doing something drastic, please seek help. Debt is not worth taking your life or hurting yourself.

Trust me, you can move past this part of your life, and you can improve your financial situation.

As Melanie said in her blog post, “You are lovely, beautiful, and courageous.”

And, that is so very true.

Please read Yes, You Can Reach Financial Freedom to see what steps you can take to change your financial situation for the better.
